    I ordered my new yoga mat a few days back and am waiting for it to get here. I’ve been looking into some different yoga studios and researching them. If my mat gets here in time, I’m going to attend my friend’s class this weekend. She’s just subing for other teachers right now but I want to be supportive of her while supporting myself. I’m really looking forward to getting back to my mat and going to a studio. Since being on the east coast, I have more time in the mornings to do a practice so my schedule has made space quite naturally, lol.

    • Awesome, I hope it comes in time. I was just thinking yesterday that I’ve taken too long of a hiatus from my mat too and have committed to practicing more regularly.

      • Last time I lived in Jax, I had a super stressful job that I enjoyed at a non-profit treatment facility. We worked with people who had serious substance use and mental health disorders and didn’t have resources. We saw some really hard cases but it was very worthwhile. I was going to yoga 5x/week then because it was truly my de-stressor. I’ll be approaching my mat differently this time. I’m feeling more and more called to be social and share myself more.

    • The new thing here in MD is 12 Step Yoga. There is a meeting first then an hour of yoga. I want to go to one and see what it is about. I have never done yoga. I am out of shape and over weight…. Therefor my excuses for not going yet. And the closest one is at least 30 minutes away.

      • I’ve never attend a 12 Step Yoga class. May be a cool meetup group activity to get people out of their comfort zone together. Just a thought!

    • So how do you like yoga? Would I be able to do it even with my physical challenges?

      • I like that I can just go to my mat, focusing on relaxing, breathing and follow along the guidance of the class. However, I always listen to my body and when the poses become too much, I go to child’s pose which is a foundational and basic pose that you are encouraged to go back to, like going back to your breath. I really have enjoyed yoga and am looking forward to getting back to it. I am of course really intentional on going to practice slowing down, breathwork and listening for inner guidance.

        • Maybe yoga would be a good stepping back into doing something physical. It would help with my stress and would not put stress on my body. I have a weak ankle.

    • I’ve been going to one class by me on Tuesday nights that I like but I want to check out some other studios too. Jennifer, I’m overweight and was self-conscious the first time I went but the teacher was super supportive about modifying and taking it easy. I felt so calm and relaxed when I left.

    • I’ve heard really good things about yoga for 12 steps. It was developed by Nikki Myers, herself an addict. I think there may be one in my metropolitan area and I just might be tempted to check it out. Let me know what you think.
