Had a very cool experience of connection with a coworker with whom I have very little in common. He unexpectedly opened up to me about some books he had started reading that he had been turned onto by a family member. The books were spiritual/self growth books that he didn’t know I was familiar with. He told me he’d always thought these types of books were garbage before being convinced by his family member to read it. He shared that the book was life changing and he was becoming “addicted” to them. So I shared that I’d read one of the books he’d referred to and had been reading them for years. This opened up a dialogue on what the book had meant to him and what changes he was experiencing as a result. While listening and holding space, something he said lended itself to me telling him about my experiences working with coaches and he’s interested in learning more. It’s surprising because he is literally one of the last people that I work with that I could’ve ever envisioned having this conversation with and opening up to about my own experiences as they related to his.
