I just shared the self-care worksheet and audio with 2 people that contacted me through FB who are starting the journey. Creating a practice is essential to a healing process. I find that my commitment and consistency with my practice has truly helped my mental health tremendously. A practice helps us take ownership and provide safety to ourselves.
Not only essential but deeply purposeful and life affirming. Honestly don’t know how I survived without one. Just sort of existed, I’d say.
Yes, it’s very interesting that people who are struggling don’t start with a practice. Think it’s just not on our radar when we are overwhelmed with our thoughts and feelings. It’s always something I encourage people to start with since there are so many benefits to doing one. My favorite benefit is that the person is taking responsibility and ownership of themselves. It’s the best line of defense against the hardships of life. If you are taking good care of yourself then you are going to be able to handle life better.
I love my practice. It’s the most peaceful part of my day and it carries me through the day. I started it when we started with the spiritual dimension in the Lab last year and I love how it has evolved as I have evolved. I love that I am open to it evolving to meet my needs. It includes physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental/mindfulness and it flows a little differently with me each day. I never thought of it as providing safety to ourselves but that’s exactly what it feels like <3
